Built in 2002 after the Cathedral of St. Vibiana suffered significant damage in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is arguably the most prominent Roman Catholic cathedral in all of the greater Los Angeles area. It serves as the mother church for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and is the seat of Archbishop Jose Horacio Gomez. It is a stunning, remarkable church, built in the deconstructivist style, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rafael Moneo. The modern, open space of the chapel with its soaring ceilings and angular walls and corners (but with zero right angles–a remarkable feat!) is the perfect space for an elegant and meaningful Los Angeles wedding.
In addition to a ceremony in the unrivaled cathedral, the Center at Cathedral Plaza can take care of all of your other wedding day needs, from wedding preparation to wedding party photography to post-ceremony cocktails to a grand reception in the center’s ballroom or in the open Los Angeles air. Like the cathedral itself, the center contains world-renowned art and architecture. Or you can also choose to tie the knot in the grandeur of the cathedral and host your other festivities at one of Los Angeles’ other prestigious locations, such as the Ebell of Los Angeles or Villa Del Sol D’oro pictured below.
Wherever you choose to host your ceremony and other celebrations, we at Lin and Jirsa would be honored to be your wedding photographer and videographer. Click here to learn why choosing one team to handle both your photography and videography needs will leave you with superior heirlooms on both counts.
The soaring, angular ceiling, the artistically designed organ, and the modern art and iconography make for a wedding ceremony that’s stunning and unforgettable.
The towering facade of the cathedral’s exterior and bronze front doors and statue of the Virgin Mary are an amazing location for couples or wedding party photography.
The women’s club known as the Ebell of Los Angeles is also centrally located in the heart of Los Angeles, not far from the Cathedral of the Lady of the Angels, and it may be an excellent spot for your other wedding day festivities. With two ballrooms, an art salon, a courtyard garden, and the 1270-seat Wilshire Ebell theater, The Italian-style Ebell is another piece of Los Angeles history, built in 1927.
Either of the Ebell’s two ballrooms, with their ornately carved arches and ceiling medallions and chandeliers, are a wonderful spot for dining in style, toasting your love, and dancing the night away.
