The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a Hindu temple complex situated in Chino Hills, in the southwestern region of San Bernardino County in southern California. This temple is affiliated with the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha denomination of Hinduism, but is open to people of all religions. The complex is a traditional Hindu mandir and was constructed in 2012.
Covering a 20-acre site, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir has a 91-foot lotus-shaped pond, a cultural center, gymnasium, and classrooms. It is the first earthquake-proof Mandir globally, designed to withstand earthquakes. The Mandir was built with the help of approximately 900 volunteers, including many second-generation Indian-Americans, who devoted around 1.3 million man hours to the project.
The Mandir employs a solar power system that generates electricity and helps reduce the negative impact on the environment. This solar panel system is anticipated to reduce 1,556 tons of CO2 emissions, which is equivalent to planting 62,244 trees, over a 25-year span.
