Silhouettes allow us to capture the beauty and magic of a scene while maintaining a sense of mood and mystery. When used correctly and in the right context, this creative technique can help a photographer create impactful, artistic imagery. Similar to the Creative White Balance technique we outlined in a previous article, we only utilize this technique sparingly and at the right moments. On one hand, we understand that wedding couples don’t want or need an excess of silhouette pictures, but on the other hand, we always seek to go beyond capturing basic, safe photos. So after we’ve captured all of the primary, must-have photos, we then turn to these types of techniques to add to the story.
