Hollywood Roosevelt Wedding Guide

A Hollywood Roosevelt Wedding

The Hollywood Roosevelt is one of Southern California’s most iconic and historic hotels. First opened in 1927, the Hollywood Roosevelt is the oldest continually operating hotel in all of Los Angeles. It has undergone a series of renovations over the decades to be restored to its original Spanish Colonial splendor. With claim-to-fames such as housing Marilyn Monroe for two years early in her career and hosting the first-ever Academy Awards ceremony, the Hollywood Roosevelt is an original piece of Hollywood glamour and will be the perfect spot for your unforgettable wedding.

You can seat 150 guests in the Academy Room, with its vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Hollywood Boulevard. Or the Blossom Ballroom, the site of the original Academy Awards ceremony in 1929, is a luxurious spot for both ceremony and reception, with its ornate restored ceiling work 25 feet above the ground, vintage tile work, and grand 10-foot doors. The Historic Lobby captures the historic Spanish Colonial charm of the Roosevelt with its arched doorways, stone columns, and paneled ceilings. It’s one of most sought-after venues for a wedding. Or, pictured below, you can choose to host your ceremony and/or reception on the Rooftop and dance the night away in the open air, right under the famous Roosevelt Hotel sign. This unrivaled space offers 360-degree views of Hollywood below, and can accommodate 150 guests. It also allows access to the 3,400 square-foot Gable and Lombard penthouse, named for Clark Gable and Carol Lombard, who would come and stay together in the suite for $5 per night.

From Behind the Lens

What we love about shooting
at Hollywood Roosevelt.

Golden Hour Glamour in the Poolside Courtyard
The Roosevelt's iconic pool deck is a photographer's dream during golden hour, with perfectly aged Spanish Colonial arches framing the water and soft, diffused light bouncing off the tile work. This setting delivers red-carpet elegance without feeling sterile—the patina and history are visible in every frame.
🏛️
Architectural Drama in Every Direction
From soaring hand-painted ceilings to ornate plasterwork and vintage chandeliers, the Roosevelt's interiors offer endless textured backdrops for couple portraits and detail shots. The layers of authentic 1920s design create visual depth that feels inherently cinematic.
🎬
Hollywood History as Your Backdrop
Shooting at the Roosevelt means your images are set against one of LA's most recognizable properties—the Cinegrill lounge, the main ballroom, and corridors all carry the weight of 95+ years of entertainment history. This authenticity translates to photographs that feel timeless rather than trendy.
Common Questions

What couples typically ask.

What's the best time to capture portraits at the Hollywood Roosevelt?
Golden hour at the pool deck is unbeatable—typically 5-7 PM depending on the season. We also love mid-afternoon for the main ballroom interiors when the overhead light is less harsh. If your ceremony is in the morning, the soft north-facing light near the main entrance creates romantic, shadowless couple portraits.
Which spots at the Roosevelt photograph the most beautifully?
The poolside courtyard with its arched colonnades is iconic, but don't overlook the main ballroom's ornate ceiling for bridal details, the Cinegrill for moody reception shots, and the second-floor corridors for intimate couple moments. The main staircase also provides dramatic framing for grand entrances.
How many hours should we budget for photography here?
We recommend 10-12 hours minimum to capture getting-ready, the ceremony, golden hour portraits at the pool, and the full reception with all those architectural details. The venue is expansive enough that you'll want time to use multiple locations without feeling rushed.
What makes the Roosevelt different from other LA wedding venues?
The Roosevelt is authentically historic—not a restored set piece, but a living, breathing landmark with genuine patina and soul. Every surface tells a story, and couples get the intangible benefit of being married in the same hotel that hosted the first Academy Awards and hosted Marilyn Monroe. That legacy reads in photographs.
Does the Roosevelt have adequate getting-ready spaces, and are there parking considerations?
The Roosevelt offers multiple suite options for getting-ready, though we recommend confirming your block includes dedicated bridal and groom suites when booking. Parking can be tight on Hollywood Boulevard; advise your guests to arrive early and use the hotel's valet service. We recommend building in 15-20 extra minutes for vendor load-in and parking setup.
